Call to Worship

Leader: A lawyer asked Jesus, “Teacher, which commandment in the law is
the greatest?”
People: Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all
your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

Leader: “This is the greatest and first commandment.”
People: “And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as
yourself.”

Leader: “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
People: Together, let us worship our God!

Confession and Silent Prayer

Loving God, Good news LORD - I have made some awesome plans for us this week. Yes, I am sure you will agree with the path I have chosen for us to take.  I did mention this in prayer, didn’t I?  Anyway, here are my plans for you and me working together. Pretty impressive, aren’t they?  What?   You mean these are not your plans for me? Oh LORD, I have done it again.  I
have not waited patiently for your direction and guidance. I have assumed
that my path must be your path. Forgive me LORD. Forgive my rushing headlong into life without listening for you. Forgive me for being too anxious, too impatient and too headstrong to hear your voice. Forgive me and guide me, that I may find the hope, peace and joy, that comes with listening to your voice and doing your will . . . . .
Silent Prayers and Meditations

In Christ’s name we pray, Amen

Today’s Lesson 1 Samuel 3:1-21 (The Call of Samuel) The Word of the Lord!        Thanks be to God!

Affirmation of Faith     from the  “Confession of Belhar”, South Africa, PC(USA) Book of Confessions

We believe that God has entrusted the church with the message of reconciliation in and through Jesus Christ; that the church is called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world, that the church is called blessed because it is a peacemaker, that the church is witness both by word and by deed to the new heaven and the new earth in which righteousness dwells.  We believe that God’s life-giving Word and Spirit has conquered the powers of sin and death, and therefore the sins of hatred, bitterness and enmity. We believe that God’s life-giving Word and Spirit will enable the church to live in a new obedience,  which can open new possibilities of life for society and the world.  Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Charge and Benediction

May the God who shakes heaven and earth, whom death could not contain, who disturbs us when complacent and  heals us when in pain, bless us this day with the power to go forth and proclaim the Gospel in trust and love!

May the grace of Christ, the love of God, and the power, fellowship and comfort of the Holy Spirit be yours, this day and forever, Amen.

Weekly Prayers of the People, September 19, 2021 - prayers written by Elder Bobby Boyd and spoken in unison during worship. Pray with us now:

Dear Loving Father; There are so many sick and helpless people who need our help. They also need medical aid. Please weigh on everyone’s heart what our duty as brothers and sisters is towards all God’s Children. HEAR OUR PRAYER, O LORD. AMEN.

Most Amazing God; we care so much for all the children. Our hearts are heavy with the abuse of some, the lack of nourishment for many and those children missing the tender love that all children should receive. Our hearts are hurting for the children of Afghanistan. Please let your grace hide them in the cleft of the Rock. HEAR OUR PRAYER, O LORD. AMEN.

Dear Grower of all things Beautiful; We continue to left our farmers to your care. Let their harvest time be a great success as they harvest their peanuts, cotton, pecans and the other harvest produce. We are so dependent upon our farming community and appreciate agricultural workers more than we can express. HEAR OUR PRAYER, O LORD. AMEN.

God of All Life; Bless all government officials. Elected and appointed. Remind them they serve us, not themselves. HEAR OUR PRAYER, O LORD. AMEN.
